Confused Ribbet Sows Chaos, Mirth Around City
Citizens Delighted, Baffled
NORTH GATES, Jun. 19--Throughout the day, guards were led on a merry chase around 11 and 13 Arrondissements by a mysterious ribbet, who was reportedly handing out potions and reciting poetry.
The figure was first reported about noon near King's Park, handing out seemingly-unlicensed potions of lifting, strength elixirs, vanishing tinctures, and all sorts of other minor tonics. By the time guards responded, she had scarpered away.
She evidently caused quite a stir at a local performance of Yarblet the 8th, where she took center stage and declared all five houses illegitimate. Onlookers were unsure if she was cursed or just having fun, although they noted that her meter was perfect.
As of press time, sightings seem to have dropped off, but many residents we spoke to were amused by the day's events, and several expressed hopes that she continues to evade capture.
The Isle of Burials, where the witch was interred
Coven Witch Memorialized
Witch Was Famous for Heroics, Infamous for Temper
CITY OUTSKIRTS, Jun. 18--Locals gathered at the Isle of Burials on Thursday to honor a recently-deceased witch, Granny Thorne (given name unknown).
Granny Thorne, or simply Granny to those who knew her, was renowned throughout the area for her many achievements during her long life, including once stopping a meteor -- or so she claimed. Her most well-known exploit may be her pivotal role in ending the Body Crisis twenty years ago, but she is also infamous around the city for her hostile disposition and sharp tongue.
We spoke to one person familiar with Granny Thorne, although they insisted on anonymity, in case she'd faked her death. They characterized her as "a tough nut to crack," and not someone whose path you'd want to cross.
A frequent adventurer, she often brought strange artifacts back to Vyria, many of which caused quite a lot of trouble for the gendarmes. However, owing to her contributions to our city, these incidents were usually overlooked by the Council.
As the Granny of the Vyria witches, she is likely to be succeeded by Mother Pine, a witch of some great esteem herself, known for her long affiliation with Polaris. She is also survived in the coven by another witch, Mother Ash, a child named Willow who has not yet reached witchhood, and her cat familiar.
Well-wishers are advised to steer clear of the Isle of Burials, as incidents involving liches are said to be quite common when powerful sorceresses die.
Sixth Annual Meatloaf Cookoff a Big Hit
STONEHIDE RANCH, Jun. 17--Several hundred area residents gathered for this year's meatloaf cookoff, at a quaint ranch in 14 Arrondissement, a short distance from the east gates.
The chefs behind the exquisite meatloafs on exhibit are hoping to put Vyria on the culinary map. The whole affair was sponsored by the Stonehide butchery collective, apparently to show off some of their latest grilling techniques.
Our city may soon be known for more than just javelin fish steaks!

Second Bell Wins Award
SECOND BELL, Jun. 15--This week, the small fishing community of Second Bell won an award for being "The Third Most-Pleasant Fishing Village West of the Spine."
The award was given by Trawler's Monthly, a popular serial in the coastal towns. We caught up with the magistrate of Second Bell, who is also the village's shipwright, and she had this to say:
"This is certainly great news for our little town. Those guys at Musselburgh have been jeering at us every time we head into the city, but maybe they'll think twice now. We're aiming for second place next year!"
